How to Grill the Perfect Kabob

How to Grill the Perfect Kabob

The following recipes and photography were provided by local blogger Carolyn Hodges of The Dinner Shift.

Heinen’s Meat and Seafood Departments have you covered this grilling season with an assortment of ready-to-cook kabobs! From sirloin steak to salmon and everything in between, you’re sure to find a delicious variety to satisfy family and friends all summer long.

The Benefits of Heinen’s Kabobs

Heinen’s ready-to-cook kabobs are prepared fresh in store using high-quality ingredients you’ve come to expect. Each kabob is hand skewered using premium CARE Certified beef and chicken or responsibly sourced seafood, in addition to ripe produce cut think enough to ensure even cooking. Many of these offerings are even pre-seasoned and marinated so you can get right to grilling without having to do any extra work.

How to Prepare the Grill

Leftover debris on your grill grates may cause kabobs to stick. Use a wire brush to remove any excess debris, then heat the grill with high heat for at least 10 minutes to burn off any excess. Scrape the grates a second time.

After preheating the grill to you desired temperature, and before grilling the kabobs, lightly coat a wad of paper towels in a neutral cooking oil like avocado oil. Grip it between an oversized pair of tongs and use it to “oil” the grates. Be sure not to soak the paper towel as the excess oil will cause smoking and flare-ups.

How to Cook Heinen’s Kabobs

Consider the following cooking temperatures and timing when grilling. If the kabobs begin to char too quickly, I recommend moving them to indirect heat.

Chicken:

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (400-450F) and oil the grates.
  • Cook the chicken kabobs over direct heat for 10-15 minutes total, rotating halfway through, or until the internal temperature reaches 165F.

Beef:

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (400-450F) and oil the grates.
  • Cook beef kabobs over direct heat for 8-10 minutes total, rotating halfway through, or until desired doneness.

Salmon:

  • Preheat your grill to medium heat (350-400F).
  • Cook salmon kabobs over direct heat for 8-10 minutes total, rotating halfway through, or until cooked through.
  • Consider using a grill pan if you’re concerned about flaky fish sticking to the grates.

How to Cook Kabobs without a Grill

If you don’t have an outdoor grill, or if the weather is keeping you from going outside, you can still enjoy Heinen’s kabobs by cooking them on an indoor grill pan or baking them in the oven.
