What’s For Dinner? Texas Red Chili with Cornbread

Ingredients

  • Heinen's Beef Chili Meat
  • Carrol Shelby's Original Chili Mix
  • Heinen's Tomato Sauce (8 oz.)
  • Heinen's Sharp Cheddar Shredded Cheese
  • Nabisco Soup and Oyster Crackers
  • Heinen's Cornbread, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef.
  2. To the skillet, add the 8 oz. can of tomato sauce, 2 cups of water, a cayenne pepper packet (optional), and Carol Shelby’s Original Chili Mix.
  3. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Top with the cheddar cheese and oyster crackers. Serve the cornbread on the side.

In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
