Ingredients

4 cups sunflower or pumpkin seeds
1 tsp. sea salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. olive oil
Optional: Replace the cinnamon with other herbs and spices, such as: curry, garlic, ginger, Nama Shoyu, various juices, oregano, basil or thyme.

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to lowest setting and brush a cookie sheet with the oil, then spread the seeds over the cookie sheet and coat with half the sea salt and cinnamon.

2. Bake for 10-30 minutes, then sprinkle on the rest of the sea salt and cinnamon.

3. Bake for 10-30 minutes more or until toasty.

In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
