Heinen’s Discovers Credit Card Skimming Device on Single Payment Terminal at Heinen’s Shaker Heights

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH – October 10, 2024 – Heinen’s identified a credit/debit card skimming device was present on a single payment terminal at its Shaker Heights store from the afternoon of July 25th through the afternoon of July 27th.

Upon discovery of this device during routine monitoring on July 27th, Heinen’s initiated an investigation and forensic analysis. It was determined that the device attempted to collect data from 41 customers who swiped their magnetic stripe in the payment terminal versus inserting a chip or tapping to pay.

Heinen’s is committed to the safety and security of its customers’ information and consistently implements security protocols to safeguard against fraudulent activity by:

  • Using anti-tampering technology on all payment terminals.
  • Conducting frequent physical security audits to ensure systems remain secure.
  • Training Heinen’s associates to recognize and report signs of tampering or suspicious activity.

Heinen’s encourages customers who shopped and swiped their card versus inserting a chip or tapping to pay at Heinen’s Shaker Heights the afternoon of July 25th through the afternoon of July 27th to check their bank statements for any unauthorized transactions.
